The walls of the historic zawiyas and Quranic schools in Timimoun house invaluable cultural, scientific, and civilizational treasures, carefully preserved in chests and boxes known as manuscripts. These are hand-copied books, written in ink on bound volumes dating back centuries, left by scholars and sheikhs from across the world—from Al-Andalus, the Arab East, and African countries—who compiled their knowledge in various fields such as Sharia, astronomy, mathematics, and poetry.
The most famous of these manuscripts are kept in Bdiran Palace, Zawiya Al-Dabbagh Palace, Tebelkouze Palace, Kali Palace, Sheikh Palace, Shrouin Palace, Tasswaft Palace, and Matarfa Palace, forming an integral part of the cultural and civilizational memory of the Gourara region.
